Missions

THE BIG PICTURE

The big picture at Goshen is that this world is God's world, and his mission will be accomplished.  Jesus Christ WILL build his church (Matt. 16:18). ”And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come (Matt. 24:14). “And to think that we, as Christ's ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20), have the privilege of bearing witness to his saving love among all the people groups on earth!

Our zeal for mission is rooted in God's heart for the nations.  Take a moment to watch this video and ask the Lord to give you his compassion for the lost of this world.  This video gives an up-close look at God's mission to the unreached.  And here's a testimony of God's saving hand in a North Korean student's life.

The GBC Missions Team gives leadership in our quest to bring Jesus' love to the world.  The Team meets regularly for prayer, study, strategizing, ministry updates, and to mobilize Christ's ambassadors into his world.  Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! (Psalm 96:3)

Hands On

The body of believers at Goshen is eager to follow Jesus and reach out with his love to our neighbors.  Most of all, this happens informally--through friendships in our communities, work places, and schools.  Our desire is for the light of Christ to shine through us (Matt. 5:14-16).

We also have a number of ongoing ministries as a church family that help us spread the hope of Christ in our community, including:

  • Goshen Baptist Preschool
  • Upward Basketball and Cheerleading (for grades K-8)
  • Mom2Mom (2nd Wednesday of the month)
  • Explorer Girls (for grades K-6)
  • Awana for Boys (grades K-5)
  • Vacation Bible School (each summer, for pre-K to grade 4)
  • Survivor (each summer, for grades 5-8)

Another way the body is directly involved in missions is together with partners in the Dominican Republic.  Since 2006 Goshen has been serving and learning from our sister church in Sabana Cruz, D. R., through annual visits and ongoing prayer and communication.  After completing our mission in Sabana Cruz in 2013, we've been praying about a new opportunity to show Jesus' love in the D. R.

  • Our Special Missions Offering this year is for Memorial Christian Hospital in Bangladesh.  The $8M project to vastly expand the reach of this vital ministry is nearly funded—less than $1M still needed.  If you want to contribute, use a pew envelope and designate your gift for “MCH” up thru Dec. 3 (checks payable to “Goshen Baptist Church”).

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:14-15)
