In the last couple weeks, you’ve seen our new church sign taking shape along Rte. 3.  We’ve also introduced the same wordmark and logo on our bulletin stationery, website, and a welcome sign in the FLC lobby.  (And a big THANK YOU to our Design Team, Building & Property Team, and many others who’ve helped with these projects!)

cross logo

The cross logo helps us make a visual statement about the centrality of Christ here at Goshen.  Jesus’ death in our place and his resurrection victory mean everything to us.  Our core message is what God has done in his Son’s death and resurrection for us.  The “gospel” is that “Christ died for our sins” and “was raised on the third day” to secure our future resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).  We trust this truth, and we worship the Lord of Life!

This cross logo can also serve as a reminder of our key purposes, which we sum up with three words:  upward, inward, outward. Being a church and honoring the Lord involves growing in three vital relationships—with God (upward), each other (inward), and the world (outward).  Both corporately and individually, we all need to be active in those three relationships.

All four parts of this logo can be seen as arrows.  The top and bottom elements point along a vertical axis, upward:  we’re grounded in the Word and we “look up” in worship and trust toward our great God.  All four elements of the cross point to the center, inward:  our body life, our love and encouragement for one another.  And the two side elements point away, outward to a lost world:  we gather to scatter; we’re on mission with Jesus.

So how are we doing with upward-inward-outward?  How are you doing in those three relationships?  For our good and God’s glory, this is our calling.  May the Lord help us advance and thrive as his cross-shaped people, his church!
