Our student ministry has restarted a week ago and we already have been having a great time reconnecting to each other, engaging in games, and reengaging with the Bible.   During our first youth group, we read the parable in Matthew 7:24-27 about building a foundation on solid rock.  This is our unofficial theme this year.  My goal this year, after going through and really still going through a pandemic is how to help teens create a foundation or firm up their foundation with God.  Sunday September 12th was High School youth group and to help them understand how to see what a foundation on solid rock looks like IRL (In Real Life), I show a video of my Dad’s story and how he trusted in the Lord to not only help him but help use him during 9/11/2011.  Here is a link to that video: https://vimeo.com/315449600

This week was our second youth group for both middle school students and high school students and we continued this theme.  We are going through the Gospel of Luke and I will be teaching through it exegetically, however, I know that there will not be enough time to cover every chapter and verse.  So to help students further engage in the Gospel and also to work on their foundations outside of youth group, we have a Bible Reading Plan that started on Monday.  The Gospel of Luke is broken into about 20-30 verses a day but I wanted to help students go a little further.  So we I also challenged them to not just read the scripture but to engage in it.  During our youth groups this week, I taught students the S.O.A.P. Bible study method, which is a great way to go further with what you read.

If you have not heard of S.O.A.P., you can look at the image of our Bible reading plan above to read what each letter stands for.  Additionally, if you have not really found a Bible reading plan that works for you, or maybe you are looking to go a little deeper, maybe you too can join in on this Fall Plan!  I especially want to encourage parents of teens to join in, and grow with your teens as they are doing this study themselves.  You can print the image above, or if you want an index card sized folded copy like I gave to the students, email me and I’ll bring some extras to church or mail them to you!

Thanks for reading and as always, let me know how I can help!
