In June the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that made abortion on demand the law of the nation.
I can’t count how many times over the last 49 years I’ve prayed and written and spoken out in favor of the pro-life cause. From Scripture it’s plain that human pregnancy involves God’s creative handiwork (Psalm 139:13-16), and thus abortion amounts to taking one’s stand in opposition to God!
Over the years I’ve repeated the question that’s so often dodged by abortion advocates, namely: What is the evidence that the unborn are not people? I ask this because, unless there is a strong and compelling case to demonstrate that the unborn are not human beings, our commitment to human rights should move us to uphold and defend the right to life for pre-born people.
I give thanks that the Dobbs ruling will result in the saving of lives, many lives. Of course, the need remains to pray and serve and love so that abortion will be sought less and less. After all, as the issue shifts from federal to state level, we recognize that the majority of Americans live in states where abortion on demand continues to be the sad status quo.
What’s more, it’s very disturbing to see how the whole situation is being spun by so many politicians and media outlets: distorting the facts, caricaturing the pro-life judges, and brazenly ignoring the existence of a little, unborn person. We need to pray.
Pray with thanks for the end of Roe v. Wade. Pray for Christian crisis pregnancy centers and their vital work serving women and families (e.g., ConnectCare (formerly Chester County Women's Services) which we support at GBC). Pray for women confronted by an unexpected or unwanted pregnancy, that the Lord would do a great work in their hearts—for their good and the good of their little ones. And pray for a wave of revival in our times resulting in countless lost women and men turning to Jesus in faith, and then joyfully embracing God’s vision for human life as precious in his sight!
