It’s good to have an awareness of current events in this world of ours.  Of course, you can overdo it and be consumed with the news.  But it’s important to know what’s going on.

Here are several headlines from Google News—to put a few topics on the table:  “Atlanta-Area Spa Shootings:  Police Still Working to Notify Victim Families” – “Biden, Harris to Meet with Asian-American Leaders in Georgia to Offer Support after Shootings” – “EU Regulator Declares AstraZeneca Vaccine Safe” –  “Pennsylvania Delays State Income Tax Deadline to May 17” – “Tanzania’s President John Magufuli Dead at 61” – “Nike Posts Mixed Results as Sales Fall Short of Estimates” – “March Madness Bracket Predictions” – “Explosive Harry, Meghan Interview Reverberates across Globe” – “NASA’s Perseverance Rover Captures Mars Sounds” – “Myanmar Is Descending into Chaos.”  It’s fitting to be aware of the main issues and key contours of at least some such stories.

And here are a few news headlines that are not showing up in the media—but which are profoundly newsworthy in the grand scheme of things:  “Creator of the Universe Praised by Millions” – “Lord of Heaven and Earth Does All Things Well” – “Faltering Christians Still Loved by Savior” – “Son of God Offers Unending Joy to All who Trust in Him” – “Two Billion Christ-Followers Embrace Bible’s Teaching on Marriage and Sex” – “Reconciliation with God Transforms Countless Lives” – “Believers Eagerly Await Return of Christ” – “God Promises Future Obliteration of Death” – “Church Makes Manifold Wisdom of God Known to Principalities and Powers” – “Persecuted Jesus-People Unwavering in Devotion to Him.”

This latter collection of headlines is alert to ultimate reality, while the former is engrossed in the small affairs of now-ism—an inward-looking worldview fixated on temporary, fleeting things.  Again, it’s good to be alert to this-worldly happenings.  But make sure your mind and heart give major attention to God’s biggest news stories!
