All praise to the God of limitless ability!

Here are several Bible texts declaring that “God is able.”  Let this word of hope pour over you.  Read it through—then read it again, slowly.  Ask the Lord to apply this truth to your soul like medicine:

  • Daniel 3:16-18:  Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”
  • Matthew 3:9:  Do not presume to say to yourselves, “We have Abraham as our father,” for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.
  • Acts 20:32:  I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
  • Romans 14:4:  Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
  • Romans 16:25:  Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ,…
  • 2 Corinthians 9:8:  God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
  • Ephesians 3:20-21:  Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,…
  • 2 Timothy 1:12:  I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.
  • Hebrews 2:18:  For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
  • Hebrews 7:25:  He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
  • James 1:21:  Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
  • James 4:12:  There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy.
  • Jude 24:  Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy,…

Will you trust our wise, benevolent Father today?  He promises to give good gifts to his children who ask (Matthew 7:11), and to apply his power by working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).  Even as we walk through the darkest valley, our Good Shepherd is with us (Psalm 23:4)!

Take to heart the encouraging word from Paul the prisoner in Philippians 4:6-7:  “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” The Lord says to your troubled heart, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
