Hi Goshen Families, I don't know about you, but I seem to be losing track of the days of the week! It's easy to let the hours and days roll by without noticing the new opportunities that God is giving to us with our family during this very different and in many ways difficult time. I would encourage you to keep your family connected to our church by sharing with your children the different lessons, songs, posts, and activities that we are sending out. We want to keep you all connected to the life of our church and your children need you to ...

Contentment

March 27, 2020
Peter Nelson
Contentment.  Are you content in Christ today? How do the words of Paul (as a prisoner!) strike you?  “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.  I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound.  In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.” (Philippians 4:11-12).  And then there’s Hebrews 13:15:  “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you ...

Tribute to Helen Reid

March 26, 2020
Lori Herson
Helen Reid served in children’s ministry at Goshen Baptist Church for more than twenty years. She was a faithful servant in room 109 ministering to the two and three year olds who would pass through that room - most affectionately called, “Helen’s room.” Helen served so many people at Goshen and in her surrounding community. I had the privilege of seeing Helen minister to her young children in her Sunday school class with kindness, creativity, and faithfulness. Helen cared for the children who came into her room. She usually prepped her ...

We are praying for you...!

What Hasn't Changed?

March 19, 2020
Peter Nelson
Here’s a great question to be asking right now:  What hasn’t changed? Because it feels like everything has changed.  The coronavirus struck and, presto, within weeks we go from a stable and familiar way of life to massive disruption.  It’s like someone grabbed the world and flipped it upside-down.  Now the media overflows with COVID-19 coverage.  And schools close, churches go virtual, and travel, sports, entertainment, restaurants, and all non-life-sustaining businesses go dark.  And we all go home.  It feels like everything has ch ...

Holy Week 2020

March 19, 2020
Peter Nelson
Goshen Family, Here in the age of Coronavirus, we'll be continuing our online virtual worship services for the foreseeable near future, even as we look forward to gathering in person again as soon as it is appropriate to do so. In light of this, our experience of Holy Week as a church family will be very different this year.  It's easy to quickly think of this as a loss--and much is lost when we can't be in each other's physical presence.  But God is up to something wise and right in the midst of all this, Christ is building his church, ...

Children's Sunday School Summary March 8, 2020

Some of the last words of the Lord recorded in the Old Testament are found in Malachi 4—“Look, I am going to send you the prophet Elijah … he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers” (vv. 5-6). The Book of Malachi was written more than 400 years before Jesus was born. For centuries, God’s people did not hear from Him. They were back in their homeland but were subject to other ruling nations. Eventually, the Romans took over. The Roman emperor installed Herod as a leader over Judea ...

What Will the Future Hold?

March 06, 2020
Peter Nelson
The Book of Daniel has been painting a picture of the future for us.  And these days, with Coronavirus uncertainty, volatile financial markets, and political angst of all kinds, everyone’s wondering about the future:  When the dust settles, what will tomorrow be like? There’s an old saying:  We may not know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future. And with the knowledge that our good-wise-powerful Heavenly Father has tomorrow in his hands, we can rest. But still, that old saying isn’t quite right.  We actually DO know some ...

Children's Sunday School Summary March 1, 2020

March 02, 2020
Lori Herson
The prophecies concerning Jesus’ birth are numerous, and many of them refer to Jesus’ lineage. Old Testament prophecies tell of the promised Messiah being born from the seed of a woman (Gen. 3:15); from the seed of Abraham (Gen. 22:18), Isaac (Gen. 21:12), and Jacob (Num. 24:17); from the tribe of Judah (Micah 5:2); from the line of Jesse (Isa. 11:1); and from the house of David (Jer. 23:5). The prophecies said He would be born of a virgin (Isa. 7:14) and would be the Son of God (1 Chron. 17:13-14; Ps. 2:7). Jesus fulfilled all of these ...
