Messages on the Practical Vocation of Praise

Winter 2019

There’s nothing more practical than getting your head and heart centered on GOD.  All those how-to talks and life-hack lists will fall flat if you’re not, first and foremost, practicing “doxology.”

Doxa is the Greek word for glory.  And doxology is a prayer of praise to the glory of our Awesome God.  Whether you sing it or say it, rest on it or walk in it, doxology is the very practical task of aligning your life with what matters most—and with the One who reigns over all things.

Come join us for seven soul-forming messages based on the major doxology passages in the New Testament!

  • Jan. 20,      “Strengthened by the Gospel” (Romans 16:25-27)
  • Jan. 27,      “Glory in the Church” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
  • Feb. 3,       “Honoring the Immortal King” (1 Timothy 1:17; 6:15-16)
  • Feb. 10,     “Equipped to Do God’s Will” (Hebrews 13:20-21)
  • Feb. 17,     “Kept from Falling” (Jude 1:24-25)
  • Feb. 24,     “Freed by His Blood” (Revelation 1:5-6)
  • Mar. 3,       “Praise to an Awesome God” (Romans 11:33-36)

Not About Deserving

Not About Deserving
Being a Christian is not about what we deserve.  If it were, it would be terrifying.  The Bible and experience teach us that we’ve all shaken our fists at the Lord in stubborn rebellion (e.g., 1 ...

Upward I Look

Upward I Look
In 1863, Charitie Bancroft wrote the hymn, “Before the Throne of God Above.”  I love the way this song conveys assurance to the downcast believer—especially the call to “look up”: When Satan ...
