Jesus, friend of sinners

Sermons Exploring Our Reformation Roots • Fall 2017

Goshen Baptist Church • Pastor Peter Nelson

500 years ago an anguished German monk nailed a list to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg:  “95 Theses” based on Scripture for debate about the nature of true Christianity.  And so, in God’s providence, Martin Luther sparked a movement of revival by the rediscovery of the gospel message—God’s “good news” that had been obscured, distorted, and even lost in medieval Europe.  “The Reformation” announced to the world that Jesus Christ is a friend of sinners, and that we can receive his eternal, all-satisfying friendship by faith—not by ritual or works or any kind of merit.  Salvation is by grace alone, in Christ alone, through faith alone, to the glory of God alone!

Join us for an adventure through church history and into the Scriptures as we exalt Jesus, reaffirm the wonder of his gospel, and invite God's Spirit to lead us in the ongoing reformation of our hearts.

By the way, for a terrific and brief introduciton to the Reformation, you can read the free downloadable PDF of Michael Reeves's new book, Freedom Movement.
